The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 18th Century Continental European (likely Belgian) flintlock pistol, which does not have any markings that we can see. It does however show a very high level of manufacturer, and is similar to the typical flintlock pistols used in the late 18th Century in Europe. The pistol is fitted with a 3 3/8" long half-octagonal "cannon" style barrel, which has a bore of approximately .50". It features a wooden full stock with iron mountings including the trigger guard, ramrod pipe, and side plate. It also features a magnificent Lion's Head "Grotesque" mask silver butt plate, as well as round silver escutcheon on the back of the grip that looks to show a hound's head or some other animal over a black oval panel. Definitely a pistol made for someone of some importance!

Overall condition is very nice, showing a lovely patina from age and careful cleaning. The lock functions, however it will fire at both full and half cock due to wear on the tumbler. The stock does show some cracking and repairs around the barrel area. There is a ramrod under the barrel, however it is a display replacement.

Well preserved, just acquired from an old private collection. Ready to display!
