Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a lovely European Continental Flintlock pistol, most likely made in Central or Eastern Europe during the early 18th century. It is highly decorated, with full engraved iron fittings as well as a wonderful carved wooden stock. There are no maker markings or proofs we can see, but with this level of decoration it's possible that they were removed, or were never present to begin with. Really a great looking ornate pistol with a wonderful aged patina.
The pistol has a lovely 13 3/4" barrel that is part octagonal near the breech, and measures 21 1/4" in total length. It pistol bears beautiful embossed and engraved iron mounts, all decorated with lovely foliate motifs. The "long-eared" iron butt plate has many of these, as well as some brass accent inlays, while the large side plate is perforated with beautiful engraving. There is additional engraving and brass inlays on the top of the barrel, making this a very well decorated pistol.
The carved wood stock is lovely, showing additional foliate designs and other accents that surround the iron fittings. There are floral patterns carved into the fore stock and around the barrel tang as well, which must have taken quite some time to execute. We can see some past repairs and cracks, very common due to how thin the stocks are on these highly decorated pistols. Under the barrel is a wooden ramrod, which looks to be a display replacement. We checked the lock, and it is unfortunately not functional at present. It can be cocked and dry fired, but the mechanics are stiff, and it hangs half way due to this.
A lovely 18th Century European Flintlock pistol with a high level of decoration. Ready to research and display!
