Original Argentina Pre-WWII Naval Academy Short Sword by Carl Eickhorn in Scabbard with Rayskin Grip & Leather Sword Knot - Escuela Naval Militar

Original Item. Only One Available. The Escuela Naval Militar is the naval military academy of the Argentine Navy. The purpose of the institution is to form the future Argentinian navy officials. It was created in October 1872 by a law promoted by President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, following the necessity of having an institution to train future sailors in Argentina.

This is an outstanding short sword for the Escuela Naval Militar manufactured by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen for the Argentine Navy. The ricasso is marked with the 1933-35 trademark logo for Eickhorn. The blade is triple-etched with glorious Argentine motifs with a panel in the center reading:

REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA

The spine is stamped FABRICATION ALEMANA, likely where the etching was done. The hilt is gorgeous with a wire-wrapped rayskin grip and lion’s head pommel with a ring attached. The ring has an original leather sword knot attached but the leather is heavily worn and ripped in many places. The crossguard has great motifs, ending on both sides with acorns. The top of the crossguard is stamped 83.

The original leather scabbard is in great condition and still latches on well with a functional release.
