Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting bronze statue which we believe to be depicting an Austro-Hungarian soldier. This is because we found a very similar example that had the soldier wearing a different piece of headgear, that being a forage cap, but the bayonet on his side is nearly identical, so we believe that this is an Austro-Hungarian piece, but we cannot say this for certain. Interestingly, the marble base is carved at an angle, so the soldier sits atop it rather slanted. The piece altogether measures 4 ½ x 8 x 2 ⅞”.
The soldier lays in a muddy trench aiming his rifle. He wears what appears to be a visor cap and has a mustache, and has a bayonet to his side, which appears to be an M95 Mannlicher rifle bayonet.
An outstanding bronze statue, perfect for any WWI collection.
