Original Band of Brothers Series Costume Reproduction D-Bale Paratrooper Helmet With Belgian COGEBI Liner & Name - Ian Marshall, Paratrooper & Technical Advisor
The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting, complete example of a reproduction M1 D-Bale helmet made for “Band of Brothers” with a Belgian COGEBI liner. The helmets we normally encounter are the reconditioned Vietnam era M1 helmets, however, this was made from a reproduction plastic shell with a Belgian M1 liner fitted with a leather chin-cup. We were told that this helmet was used in Band of Brothers, and there is a nametag inside reading IAN MARSHALL. Ian Marshall was a technical advisor on Band of Brothers, having completed thousands of military jumps in his life, and was likely used for training some of the actors to make the jumps. This is not confirmed however, and we have no documentation to back up that this helmet was used in BOB.
The shell is entirely reproduction with D-Bales added and the attached chinstrap is also repro. It has the correct snaps to snap onto the liner. The liner is a Belgian COGEBI manufacture with M1 suspension and sweatband with an attached reproduction leather chin-cup. There is a leather chinstrap attached but we aren’t sure if it’s original.
This is a wonderful example of a helmet used in the popular Mini-Series “Band of Brothers” on HBO! Comes ready for display.
Band of Brothers is a 2001 American war drama miniseries based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's 1992 non-fiction book of the same name. It was created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who also served as executive producers, and who had collaborated on the 1998 World War II film Saving Private Ryan. Episodes first aired on HBO from September 9, to November 4, 2001. Critically acclaimed, the series won the Emmy and Golden Globe awards for best miniseries.
The series dramatizes the history of "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. It begins during Easy Company's paratrooper training and follows its participation in the Western Front of World War II. The events are based on Ambrose's research and recorded interviews with Easy Company veterans. The series took some literary license, adapting history for dramatic effect and series structure. The characters portrayed are based on members of Easy Company. Each episode begins with excerpts from interviews with some of the survivors, who are identified by name only at the end of the finale.
