The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of a British George IV Era (1820-1830) Pattern 1822 Officer's Sword. The sword is very nice, and has an upmarket brass Pattern 1822 hilt, with a wooden sharkskin wrapped grip bound with twisted wire. There is some wear to the sharkskin, and the guard is a bit loose, but overall it's a very nice hilt. There is a very attractive CROWN / GR / IV Royal Cypher on the top of the guard. It even has a fold down guard on one side, for a more comfortable fit against the hip of the wearer. This example retains its original scabbard. This would have been used during the era of the First Anglo-Burmese War.

The sword has the correct "key-hole" or "pipe-back" blade of the 1822 Pattern, which is in very good shape. It has the CROWN / GR / IV royal cypher etched onto both sides, with some foliate designs surrounding it. The blade shows a worn steel patina on both sides, with some past staining and oxidation. There is no etching remaining if there was ever any at all. There is some loss to the sharkskin grip, and the wire is a bit loose, but thankfully it still displays well.

The scabbard has heavy denting as shown but retains both suspension rings. There is some discoloration on one side as well.

A very nice officer's sword from the early 19th century. Ready to display!
