The Story
Original Items. Only One Lot Available. A baton (also truncheon, nightstick, billy club, billystick, cosh, lathi, or simply stick) is a roughly cylindrical club made of wood, rubber, plastic, or metal. It is carried as a compliance tool and defensive weapon by law-enforcement officers, correctional staff, security guards and military personnel. The name baton comes from the French bâton (stick), derived from Old French Baston, from Latin bastum.
This is a lovely lot of three truncheons dating from the 1890s to the 1940s. They include:
- 9 ½” long leather-covered small truncheon with integral leather hand strap. Leather is weak and cracking and strap is close to coming undone.
- 15 ½” wooden truncheon with grooves for grip, no markings.
- Roughly 20” wooden truncheon with light blue knot with intertwined dark blue rope hand strap. Shows cracking in handle but is in good shape overall. Brass pommel tack.
A good lot of truncheons, ready for display.
