The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is a lovely example of a late Victorian era police âBobbyâ billy club truncheon. The club itself is beautifully painted with a crown over the VR cypher of Queen Victoria, denoting her reign from 1837 to 1901. It does have a beautiful matured look to it with signs of use but is presented without any extensive damage. This example also has tremendous inspection stamps.
The stamps read:
BC
(CROWN)
C
3
INSP.
We arenât sure of the meanings of these markings due to the little reference there is on British truncheons, making for a very exciting research project!
The truncheon measures 15Âźâ long and retains the original leather carrying strap. There is actually some heavy material loss at the pommel, with a large chunk of wood broken off.
A fantastic example, ready for further research and display.
