The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good example of a genuine British -Manufactured Mark II steel helmet, complete with chinstrap and Helmet Net. It comes with a gray-colored repaint, certainly period done. There are some chips and dents on the top, which has allowed the steel to oxidize, and there is also some wear and oxidation on the interior. The stainless steel rim is also missing some paint, which is typical.
The front of the helmet has a blue shield with an arm holding a knife inside, a tactical flash for the 4th Brigade (Ireland), which was a post-war (mostly) peace-keeping unit that went on humanitarian missions to countries such as Congo, Lebanon, Kosovo, Liberia, Chad, etc. (The desert tan colour makes sense for the African missions) and the brigade helped during emergencies and law & order tasks. The force was disbanded in 2012.
The original liner is in good service-used condition, with nice oil cloth, and only wear from service. The oil cloth has however become a bit delicate over the decades, which is common. We were not able to find a maker mark or date, but it has a clear 7 1/2 size marking on one of the support straps.
The chin strap is in good condition, and is in the typical light tan color. It is the later war simplified version, which does not have any springs built in. There are some markings on the shell.
This is a great chance to pick up a nice British WWII helmet with an original helmet net and unit flash. Ready to display or even wear!
