The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely service-worn example of a British George IV Era (1820-1830) Pattern 1822 Officer's Sword. The sword is nice but rather crude, and has a lower marker brass Pattern 1822 hilt, with a likely-replaced lacquered wood grip with grooves that once had twisted wire. There is some wear to the brass, and the construction is rather crude, evident of a very early example for a lower ranking officer. There is a very attractive CROWN / GR / IV Royal Cypher on the top of the guard. This example does not have the fold-down guard, another detail evident of very early manufacture.

The sword has a heavily worn and thicker blade than is standard for these, which shows heavy service use. There is no etching remaining if there ever was any to begin with. The blade shows a worn steel patina on both sides, with some past staining and oxidation. The blade has a very long false edge, roughly 8¼”, and is a bit wider at the ricasso. The blade buffer is retained, but it is under the blade.

A very nice officer's sword from the early 19th century. Ready to display!

Specifications:
Blade Length: 32 1/2"
Blade Style: Single Edge w/ Fuller - Piped Back
Overall length: 38“
