The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. Originally patented in 1858, the Remington Model 95 Pocket Pistol became very popular on the River Boats of the great Mississippi river beginning in the 1870's. They were often used by gamblers and others who would require protection on the often dark decks. Having just a 3" barrel and measuring 4 3/4” overall, this was ideal for a waistcoat pocket. The barrel top strap is marked with the Remington Address:

REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.

The pistol is a fantastic example, originally produced in a nickel plated finish the metalwork with checkered "gutta percha" composition hard rubber grips. Unlike most we see, this has the original nickel plating retained at over 80%! It even still has some of the bluing present on the screws, trigger, hammer, and even on the side mounted ejector! The grips are in excellent condition, still showing strong checkering and just a tiny bit of wear.

A lever on the right of the pistol side releases the barrel, which flips upwards for extraction and reloading. There is even a nice manual extractor on the left side of the pistol, which is still fully functional. This also shows serial number 424 on the bottom of the barrel, and on the left side of the frame under the grips. The serial numbers on these restarted after the company was renamed "Remington Arms Co." in 1888, so this pistol was produced in approximately 1889. The hammer has a rather ingenious mechanism that moves the rimfire firing pin up and down alternately, so only one barrel fires at a time. It appears to function correctly, but we have not verified this. The bores are in excellent condition, showing a bright finish with strong lands and grooves. We can even still see the cutting marks in the grooves, so this pistol looks to have seen little to no use.

Found in many, many Western Movies these have become an old CLASSIC OF THE AMERICAN WEST. In fantastic barely used condition and ready to display!
