Original item. Only One Available. This is a very nice late 18th Century French Flintlock pistol, a typical commercial or private purchase example from just at the start of the French Revolution. It is maker marked on the lock plate, however the markings are too worn for us read, though maybe someone who has dealt extensively with French pistols may recognize the markings. It is all iron mounted with a "long ear" butt cap, and the fittings are all nicely molded. The pistol measures 14 inches in overall length, and is fitted with a 8 1/2 inch .57" caliber barrel that goes from round to octagonal towards the breech. It has what looks to be a walnut stock, and there is an original bone and iron tipped wooden ramrod under the barrel. It even has a cleaning slot on the smaller end!
Overall condition is very good, with a lovely worn patina on the metalwork from use and age. We can see evidence of some past pitting, now cleaned away, and this has unfortunately made the markings on the lock plate faint, and also removed any markings that might have been on the barrel. The lock is functional, however it will fire at both full and half cock, so it requires adjustment. The stock is in good shape, showing no major damage or repairs, though there is some chipping around the butt cap, especially near the "ears".
A lovely French flintlock pistol with a great honest used look. Ready to research and display!
