Original Item: Only One Available. Totally inert and demilitarized according to BATF guidelines with hollow body and inert fuse. This grenade cannot be converted to an explosive device and is not available for export.
This is a fantastically scarce French WWI Model 1914 OF1 Egg Hand Grenade, offered in great condition with the original fuze and spoon fully intact. This is the earliest iteration of this grenade, with a crude wooden spring fuze and the extremely rare tin cover! The red paint is in good order but does have chipping and oxidation as shown.
Known officially as the offensive n°1 (OF1), these grenades were manufactured between 1915 and 1917. The detonator would be screwed inside the upper hemisphere, whose complex forming needed that part to be stamped in a higher quality thin plate, while the lower cap could be made in a more common grade thin plate. They featured a bursting radius of 38 feet.
This example is offered totally inert with a deactivated fuse and all explosives removed per BATF specifications. It does not have much corrosion, unlike most that we see. A great early example overall, and a perfect addition to any Great War Collection.
