The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Pre-WWII 1st Edition Zeppelin-Weltfahrten (Zeppelin World Tour) softcover "cigarette card" album. These were purchased without the included pictures, which were then received along with packs of cigarettes. These served the dual purpose of helping to stiffen the packaging, as well as being collectible items. The album is approximately 50 pages long, in German, and features all of the original 264 miniature black and white silver bromide "cigarette card" pictures, glued to their correct locations on the various pages. It measures approximately 13 1/4"W x 9 3/8"H x 3/4", and is offered in very good condition, showing some staining to the exterior.
This book is basically a history book of flight in Germany, culminating with the creation of the Zeppelin rigid airships produced by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin during the early 20th century. It has design schematics, pictures, historical descriptions, and more on the air ships. The book would later be followed by Zeppelin-Weltfahrten II and Zeppelin-Weltfahrten III, so this volume is often referred to as Zeppelin-Weltfahrten I.
This volume has a particular focus on the airship LZ-127 "Graf Zeppelin", a craft named after the country's airship pioneer, Count (Graf) Ferdinand von Zeppelin. The ship flew passenger flights starting in 1928 and ventured on many routes, including to the Arctic. LZ-127 operated until 1937, the year of the loss of its fellow airship Hindenburg. The round-the-world flight took place in 1929, and is described in the pages of the book, complete with maps showing the flight path.
This volume was published by Müller of Dresden. Comes ready for further research and display!
