The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely German WWII period porcelain flower vase, measuring approximately 4 7/8"W x 2 13/16"D x 4 7/8"H. It is plane white porcelain and looks to be either unglazed or has a clear glaze on the exterior, while the interior has a clear gloss glaze. The bottom is marked with the maker logo of Rosenthal of Selb, a known Bavarian maker of fine porcelain that exists even today, and there is a 2541 pattern number stamped into the porcelain itself. It indicates that it was produced by the KUNSTABTEILUNG (art department), so this was an above average piece.

One side of the base shows a lovely scene of a flying goose over water plants, while the other side has a DAF logo in gold, with additional information around it, which reads as follows:-

1. MAI 1938
QUANTMEYER & EICKE
(DAF Cog Wheel Logo)
BERLIN
11. JUNI 1938

The Quantmeyer & Eicke company was known for producing the tapestries for the Reichskanzlei (Reichs Chancelry), including reproductions of 17th and 18th century Flemish, Dutch and English tapestries depicting mythological or allegorical events. We assume this vase and others like it were presented for achievement, as the factory was run under the authority of the German Labor Front, which had replaced all unions during the NSDAP period. Most likely during the specific period noted they had met some production goal, and were awarded for it.

There are no chips or major deficiencies, and this would make a great part of any German WWII collection.
