Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very rare German gas mask, the first of its kind we have offered! This mask began life during World War I as an M1917 Ledermaske, and after the war was converted during the Pre-WWII era, with an attached FE37R filter dated 1940, and in a great early style “short” canister with the original straps.
This model of Gasschutzmaske (Gas Protection Mask) was introduced in 1917, and was known as the Ledermaske due to its leather body construction. It had the original filter removed, new straps added, and a small filtering device on the left side marked with an ABN logo. The lenses are dated 1940 the bottom piece of the mask that the filter screws into has a Waffenamt eagle stamped on, next to 36.
The filter is marked as an FE37R dated 1940, with a Waffenamt stamp WaA533. It is in great shape and has certainly been with the mask since the WWII era.
The canister is in great shape, and appears to retain a staggering four spare lenses in the lid compartment! The compartment is stamped with a date of 1937. The paint is mostly retained and the elastic securing strap piece is intact! The canister retains all of its original straps which show very heavy wear and darkening.
An outstanding multi-war gas mask, the first of its kind we have offered! Ready for display.
