The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic Circa 1933 pickelhaube Fire helmet, made with the standard boiled leather body, and all of the fittings look to be very attractive German Silver alloy. These include the fire brigade top comb, the trim for the front visor, as well as the wappen. The front plate (wappen) looks to be silver plated nickel silver, and is a very large dramatic eagle with dropped down wings holding a sword in one slaw and lightning bolts in the other with a swas on its chest. This is what dates the helmet to around 1933-1934.

It is complete with original Prussian (black and white) and German National Colors (red white and black) Kokarden (cockades) around the chin strap lugs. This was still done up to the Pre-WWII era on Fireman’s helmets. They are held in by the rough leather chinstrap which is well-retained with heavy crazing in the leather.

This example retains the rare detachable rear leather neck flap which shows heavy crazing and cracking but is still solid overall. It displays great on a mannequin head.

The 9-tongue liner is in great order with some rubbing away of the finish, but there is not any serious tearing. The front of the comb is held in place by a nut with a washer embossed with a maker’s mark, CARL HENKEL of BIELEFELD. There is no size marking, but it's roughly a size 6 ¾.

This is an outstanding example, the first of its kind we have offered. Comes ready for further research and display!
