Original Item: Only One Available. Known by collectors as "ice cream cone" binoculars (due to the shape), these are classic 8x Marine binoculars, from the WWI period, which were popular with officers in WWII due to their higher power. Made by Hensoldt & Sohne Werke A-G in Wetzlar, Germany, this beautiful set of 8x50 binoculars is covered with very nice black leather.
The pair is marked HENSOLDT / MARINE DIALYT 8X on the eyepiece hinge, with a small WACHT marking on the front of the hinge. From our research, this marking was only used from 1910-1919, dating this set to the WWI period.
Condition is good, though they definitely do show their age. There is wear to the black finish, with some areas of material loss. The focus adjustment works, but it is VERY stiff. The optics are still clear, and work well. The original neck strap is absent.
Also included is a rough condition brown leather case which has heavy cracking and crazing across. The lining of the lid is gone and the original spring loaded catch on the front is broken as shown. The case measures 9" x 6" x 3 1/2", and is in very rough condition, with intact stitching, but the carry strap is entirely gone.
This is still a wonderful set complete with a case offered in nice condition.
