The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a nice example of an M1895 Pickelhaube with a Prussian Wappen (front plate). This example is stamped under the rear visor with a size and unit marking:
TXV / 57
The TXV could be a train unit, and the 57 is the size. There are also stampings that appear to be 36 III, but we are unsure of their meaning. The helmet is missing both cockades and the chinstrap.
The front wappen features a crowned Prussian state eagle clutching a scepter and orb in its claws over the King's motto, MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God for King and Country, i.e. Prussia). The wappen is held in place by the leather wedges. The helmet is overall in great condition with little crazing to the exterior leather but nothing serious. The liner is present, however it has heavy leather crazing and cracking, and the tie string has broken off of several of the tongues. There is extremely heavy wear on the interior, and the plate under the spike appears to be gone.
The helmet is missing the chinstrap but otherwise the helmet is in good displayable condition. It has retained its shape well over the past 109 years.
A very impressive piece, ready for further research and display.
