The Story

Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a very nice collection of German WWI & WWII Awards and Insignia with a period post card, which was brought back from the European theater by a USGI after the war was concluded. Many solders traded these on the way back, and would end up with a pocket full of various different collectible items, and this set represents the typical "haul" one might have come back with. It includes a good variety of items, including a Western Wall Medal, and SA Sports Training Badge, and more!

As best we can tell, this lovely set includes:

- One Imperial German WWI Bavarian 25 Year Faithful Service Miniature Medal on Ribbon Pin.

- One German WWII Western Wall / Siegfried Line Medal with Ribbon. The award has is in great shape, looking to have seen little to no use in service, which has allowed a lovely patina to develop on the medal. The ribbon is in great shape, showing just a bit of fraying on the end.

- One German WWII SA-Wehrmannschaft Defense Team Sports Training Badge in Bronze Grade by W. Redo: Known in German as the sportabzeichen, these were awarded to members of the SA for athletic achievement during the annual sports festivals. These were all part of a larger SA-Wehrmannschaft program, intended to train members of the SA. Badge is in service used condition, having lost most of the original gold wash on the steel body.

- One embroidered German WWII Schutzpolizei NCO Ärmelhoheitsabzeichen (Protection Police Arm Eagle Insignia). The badge features the correct police blue gray background with Police Hellgrün (light green) embroidery, the correct Truppenfarbe (troop color) for the protection police (Schupo). In November 1941, all Police Sleeve Eagles could cease to have district markings, so this was made afterwards. This example has stitching around the edge, so it looks to have been removed from a uniform.

- One German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy Field Gray Uniform BeVO Embroidered Wehrmachtadler Breast Eagle. In unissued condition, it features yellow gold embroidery on a green background, correct for the Navy Field Gray uniform, which was the type used by the Küstenartillerie (Coastal Artillery).

- One German WWII Pair of Tropical Afrikakorps EM/NCO Collar Litzen Insignia - Unissued. These are BeVO embroidered and originally made in strips, which are then cut to size before being sewn onto the uniform. They have the correct blue-gray base material with DAK Golden Brown stripes.

- One German Pre-WWII Early SA / NSDAP Reichsadler Lapel Pin, marked GES. GESCH. on the back.

- One German WWII Heer Army Infantry Signals Personnel Sleeve Badge, showing a white lightning bolt on a dark bottle green background. This has definitely seen some wear and moth damage.

- One Pre-WWII Adolf H "Thanks for Service to the People" badge

- One German WWII Embroidered Tri-Color Cockade, as used on Field caps during the war. It has a gray backing, so we assume it is from the Heer Army.

- One German WWII Panzer Assault Badge Poſtkarte (Post Card), showing a soldier in his panzer uniform with a "Panzer Beret" helmet on. It has the caption "Im Kampf um die Freiheit!" (In the fight for freedom), and measures 5 3/4" x 4 1/8". Currently sealed in plastic.

A wonderful totally genuine grouping perfect for the German Medal and Insignia collector. Ready to research and display!

The West Wall Medal (Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen) was a decoration of NSDAP Germany. It was instituted on 2 August 1939 and was given to those who designed and built the fortifications on Germany's western borders, known as the Westwall or, in English, the Siegfried Line, between 15 June 1938 to 31 March 1939. On 13 November 1939 eligibility was extended to include servicemen of the Wehrmacht who served on the Westwall for at least ten weeks. In all 622,064 medals were awarded until 31 January 1941, when awards of the medal ceased. This early version was made of solid bronze. The back has the statement FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLANDS - "For Work to Protect Germany."
