The Story

Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is fantastic genuine 1939 dated German WWII manufactured Tellermine aluminum transport frame designed to carry two mines. It was compatible with the Tellermine 35 (T.Mi.35) anti-tank mine, and this lovely frame comes with TWO inert T.Mi.35 (S) mines, both of which are missing their bottom plates and are demilitarized to BATF specifications. Like all deactivated ordnance, this set is Not Available for Export. We have only had two examples of transport frames before, and they are exceedingly rare, just like the original mines themselves.

This frame in this set is in very good solid condition, looking to have seen some oxidation in the past, and was probably repainted during service with the correct early war panzergrau (armor gray) blue gray paint. It is marker marked WG / 1939 on both sides for 1939 production by HASAG-Eisen- & Metallwerke GmbH, previously known as Hugo Schneider AG, Abteilung Lampenfabrik, Leipzig. This company was 12 different two letters codes beginning with "w" for the many factories that they had, with the Altenburg plant indicated by "WG". The steel latches that keep the side doors closed are fully functional, and can easily be opened to lower the doors and allow the inert mines to be removed. The hard fiber pads on the inside of the carrier are all intact, though some look to have had the rivets replaced. The various securing springs and tabs all look to be intact, though they are bit bent and many show past corrosion.

The included T.Mi.35 (S) mines are both in lovely condition, looking to have been dug up based on the oxidation on the ribbed top plates and other parts of the exterior. They were repainted with the correct dunkelgelb (dark yellow), often called "ordnance tan", however we can see that the interiors are armor gray. Both are missing their bottom plates, as stated, however they still look great and have intact and functional carry handles. One is marked wa on the fuze cover, for the Leipzig plant of HASAG, while the other is marked with what looks to be "ltf" on the fuze cover, with a 43 date on the corrugated top.

These double carriers were intended for use with Panzer divisions and on other vehicles, they would be secured to the side of the vehicle and had a carry handle for ease of use. This is great set that would make a worthy addition to any WWII ordnance collection.

The Tellermine 35 (T.Mi.35) was a German metal-cased anti-tank mine used extensively during the Second World War. The mine's case is made of sheet steel, and has a slightly convex aluminum pressure plate on the top surface with a central fuze well. Two secondary fuze wells are located on the side and bottom of the mine for anti-handling devices. For use on beaches and underwater the mine could be deployed inside a specially designed earthenware or concrete pot, which acted as a waterproof jacket for the mine.

A later variant of the mine, the T.Mi.35 (S) (stahl or steel) was produced with a ribbed steel top case and a fuze cover. The ribbed case stopped sand from blowing off the top of the mine when it was used in a desert or sandy environment.

Pressure of 400 pounds (180 kg) on the center of the mine or 200 pounds (91 kg) on its edge deforms the pressure plate compressing a spring, and breaking a shear pin which holds back the spring-loaded striker. Once the striker is released it flips downwards into a percussion cap which fires the adjacent detonator followed by the booster charge and then the main explosive filling of TNT. Most were painted field gray. From 1943, they were painted dunkelgelb (dark yellow), often called "ordnance tan", as part of the new camouflage regulations.

Finland used Tellermine 35s under the designation PANSSARIMIINA m/41.

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine German WWII manufactured inert T.Mi.43 Anti-Tank mine with the original late war dunkelgelb "Ordnance Tan" paint as well as much of the original stenciled markings still present. It is BATF compliant and totally inert. Comes complete with carry handle and base plate. The base plate is entirely detached from the mine, and can be moved to view the interior of the mine. It should sit fine on top for display. This is the first example we have offered of the T.Mi.43 that is not a from a trainer set. Like all deactivated ordnance, this mine is Not Available for Export.

The mine definitely has the appearance of one dug up after the war, and the cop plate looks a bit crushed, so it is very possible that it was a failed detonation that was later dug up and fully disarmed. The top of the mine still has the original T.-Mi.-Pilz. 43 / T marking present, while the second stencil that would note the type of detonator is no longer legible. The mine retains the original paint at about 50%, showing a good amount of surface oxidation where the paint is missing, and as noted previously the base plate is entirely detached. The handle is still present but also shows a good amount of oxidation.

Typically only U.S, made training mines have been available on the market, so this is a rare opportunity to own a genuine late-war Steel German manufactured teller mine!

The Tellermine 43 was a German circular steel-cased anti-tank blast mine used during the Second World War. It was a simplified version of the Tellermine 42, which enabled simpler production techniques. Between March 1943 and the end of World War II, Germany produced over 3.6 million Tellermine 43s. Several countries produced copies of the mine including Denmark (M/47), France (Model 1948) and Yugoslavia (TMM-1). Finland used these mines with the designation PANSSARIMIINA m/43.

Description
The casing of the Teller mine is circular, rising toward the center with a large flat pressure plate. A rectangular metal carrying handle is fitted to the side of the mine. The pressure plate sits over the fuze well which can hold either a T.Mi.Z.42 shear pin fuze or T.Mi.Z.43 ball release fuze. The mine is armed by removing the pressure plate, screwing a fuze into the fuze well, then screwing the pressure plate back on again. At the bottom of the fuze well is a PETN booster charge, surrounded by the doughnut-shaped main charge of TNT explosive. The mine has secondary fuze wells located on the side and base to enable anti-handling devices to be fitted if required. Additionally, the T.Mi.Z.43 fuze features an integral anti-handling device as standard: when the fuze is inserted and the pressure plate screwed down into place, it shears a weak arming pin in the fuze with an audible "snap". This action arms the anti-handling device. Thereafter, any attempt to disarm the mine by unscrewing the pressure plate (to remove the fuze) will automatically trigger detonation.

Since it is impossible to determine which fuze type has been installed, no pressure plate should be removed from a Tellermine. The Tellermine 43 can also be fitted with an optional tilt-rod fuze, which is screwed into the side fuze well. Anti-tank mines with this type of fuze were capable of inflicting much more damage to armored vehicles. This was demonstrated numerous times in the Normandy Campaign. On June 8, 1944, a Sherman tank was accompanying the 2nd Ranger Battalion in an attack on the Maisy battery. It ran over a Tellermine and was blown to pieces, with a total crew loss. Sergeant John Robert "Bob" Slaughter describes the scene: "The explosive energy from that hidden teller mine sent the 32-ton Sherman tank into the ditch on its side. This scene echoed the bloody, grotesque carnage of D-Day. One minute they were healthy young men, and the next minute they were bloody arms and legs wrapped around bloody torsos. We found body parts and shoes with the feet still stuck in them twenty-five yards away."
