Original German WWII 22mm Tap & Die Set in Original Transit Case by H.F. Schnicke of Chemnitz - Dated 1939

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great complete set of taps & dies used during Germany during World War II. In the context of threading, taps and dies are the two classes of tools used to create screw threads. Many are cutting tools; others are forming tools. A tap is used to cut or form the female portion of the mating pair. A die is used to cut or form the male portion of the mating pair.

This set is marked on the top of the case

Schneidzeug translates to cutting tools. The crate has a small tag on the interior naming the manufacturer:

CHEMNITZ

There are 17 pieces total, all in similar condition. The set appears complete but may be missing one of the square thread sets in the bottom left corner. One piece is marked with the maker’s name over 1940 over neu, the maker code for Emil Bauswein of München. 

The crate looks great on the interior but the exterior shows heavy damage to one corner and what appears to be woodworm damage, although it should look fine for display. The crate measures 9 ¼ x 2 ¼ x 39 ¾”, and weighs 42lbs.
