The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII German Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Aluminum EM/NCO's Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß) with an original black finished leather belt. The buckle is embossed with the Heer motto GOTT MIT UNS ("God (is) with us") inside a double rope border around a closed wing Wehrmachtadler (Armed Forces Eagle), with a partial oak leaf wreath at the bottom. Nice aluminum construction box buckle with a pebbled background. The buckle is in good condition, and is a single piece injection molded and crimped example. It does show some surface wear, common due to the softer aluminum alloy, but the design is still clear.
This buckle was originally entirely painted standard Heer olive gray, and while this is worn on the front, the rear still still shows over 90%. It is maker marked by the clasp loop with Dr. F. & Co., for Dr. Franke & Co., located in of Lüdenscheid, a city with a large garment accessories industry. The buckle still still retains the leather tab, however the maker marking is very worn, and we can only see a faint oval shape on one side of the tab.
The leather belt is in very good condition, and measures about 41” when fully extended. It is also marked 105 on the buckle end, for 105cm (41.3in), and doesn't seem to have stretched much over the years. It is finished black on the exterior, and still retains the correct leather tab with a double row of 7 holes for length adjustment. It is marked on the clip tab with the maker and date information: F.L. Bailleui / Berlin / 1941. The belt definitely shows use, and there is some staining and cracking on the interior, as well as on the adjustment tag.
Overall condition in very good with an exception eye appeal and patina! Ready to display!
