Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is definitely an interesting piece of German WWII military history! Here we have a very nice Heer Army desk ornament, an M18 "Stahlhelm" Steel helmet resting on top of a Gewehr 98 rifle, the standard outfit for the German Army at the end of WWI, and also well into the Weimar period. While by the mid 1930s both the M18 and GEW 98 had been superseded, they continued to be used as symbols in Heer collectible items throughout WWII. The rifle measures 5 1/2" long, and both it and the helmet look to be made from bronzed zinc alloy. They are attached to a black marble base measuring 5 3/8"W x 3 5/16"D x 3/4"H, which is padded on the bottom.
Condition of the desk ornament is very good, showing some loss of plating and oxidation on the helmet and rifle. There is also some chipping of the corners and edges on the marble base, but nothing catastrophic.
A great piece of of German WWII Era militaria, perfect for a desk display piece!
