Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous 9 ⅝ x 11 ¾” wooden plaque with a lovely plated zinc plate depicting a team of four German soldiers using various reconnaissance and aiming tools, including binoculars, a pericope, and a range finder. They are more than likely artillerymen.
The plaque has a smaller engraved plaque at the bottom which reads:
Der Fam Reitz
Indankbarer Anerkennung
d. Gefr. Seibert, Pickl, Fuchs.
To the Reitz family
With grateful appreciation
from Private Seibert, Pickl, Fuchs.
This was certainly presented to a well-respected family of a soldier, and could use some further research. The plated zinc plate is disconnected from the top two screws, so it slants forward a small bit. This piece has a piece for hanging on the wall, but it would be better off displayed on its back to not further damage the plate. There is some chipping and staining to the zinc as shown.
A great dedicated piece, ready for display!
