Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a very nice collection of German WWI & WWII Awards and Tinnies with a Belt buckle, which was brought back from the European theater by a USGI after the war was concluded. Many solders traded these on the way back, and would end up with a pocket full of various different collectible items, and this set represents the typical "haul" one might have come back with. It includes a good variety of medals and tinnies, including an Italian-German Africa Medal, an early Nickel HJ Belt buckle, tinnies, and more!
This lovely set includes:
- One Italian-German WWII African Campaign Medal with Ribbon. This is in very good condition, with the bronze wash still fully intact, and a great condition ribbon. This looks to be an unissued example, and still retains the original bronze finish on the medal at over 90%.
- One German WWII Early Pattern German HJ solid nickel Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß). The design shows a State Eagle clutching the HJ diamond Emblem on a raised center, with HJ motto Blut und Ehre (Blood and Honor) in Gothic script above. The motto is on a ribbed background and encircled by an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border. The buckle body is solid stamped and bent nickel alloy, only seen on the early issue buckles, and is in great shape, with minimal oxidation. The attachment claw is nickel plated steel, and is in great shape. The buckle is marked on the back with the "barred A" over A&S trademark logo of F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid, a large maker of belts, buttons, and other accoutrements. Next to this is GES. GESCH., for Gesetzlich Geschützt (Protected By Law), indicating that the buckle was a trademarked design. There is also (RZM) / 17 to the side, the correct early contract number for Assmann.
- One Gebirgsjäger Mountain Trooper Alpen-Edelweiß (Mountain Noble White) metal cap badge. It has the correct holes in the ends of the petals for attachment to the cap, and the central gold portion is a separate piece of metal.
- One German WWII 1939 REICHSPARTEITAG Nuremberg Rally Tinnie, maker marked on the back.
- One German WWII 1935 SEEFAHRT IST NOT (Seafaring is necessary) Tinnie. This was given out for German Seafaring Day (TAG DER DEUTSCHEN SEEFAHRT) , May 25-26 1935. Maker marked on the back.
- One German WWII RADwJ Labor Corps for young women badge.
- One German WWII 1934 TAG DER ARBEIT Labor Day tinnie, maker marked on the back.
- One German WWII RLB Reichsluftschutzbund Air Raid Protection League small lapel pin.
- One German WWII Gau Düsseldorf WHW 1937-1938 Tinnie. One of many "Winter Help Work" organizations to help raise Germany's agricultural capacity.
- One German WWII NSBO National Socialist Factory Cell Organization 1933 Donation Tinnie.
- One German WWII 1942 Police Donation Tinnie
One German WWII Era REICHSMÜTTERDIENST National Motherhood Service tinnie
There are also two items which are unfortunately too corroded for us to easily identify, which we leave as a great research opportunity for the future owner.
A wonderful totally genuine grouping perfect for the German Medal and Insignia collector. Ready to research and display!
"Tinnies" (Veranstaltungsabzeichen - Event Badges) are small commemorative pins or medals, acquired when one attended a specific event held in Germany. They were often made of thin stamped metal, bakelite, or even pressed paper. Many of these were given out as part of the WHW (Winterhilfswerk - Winter Help Work) Organization, which often involved Germans traveling quite a bit to help out the war effort. Many others were given for the annual Reichsparteitag (Reich Party Congress), otherwise known as the Nuremberg Rallies.
Italian-German WWII African Campaign Medal
Awarded to soldiers of the Wehrmacht and Italian troops who worked together in the North African theater of war. The round award is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed. The obverse of the award features two gladiators fighting together to keep a crocodiles jaws closed. Beside the gladiators it is written "Lorioli Milano" (manufacturing company and location) below them it is written "De Marchis" (the designer of the award). The reverse features the Arch of Fileni, above the Savoy knot and inside of a fasces (left) and a static swas (right), which is all surrounded by "Campagna Italo Tedesca in Africa - Italienisch Deutscher Feldzug in Afrika" (Medal for the Italian-German campaign in Africa (in both German and Italian)).
