Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a very nice collection of German WWI & WWII Awards and Tinnies with a Belt buckle, which was brought back from the European theater by a USGI after the war was concluded. Many solders traded these on the way back, and would end up with a pocket full of various different collectible items, and this set represents the typical "haul" one might have come back with. It includes a good variety of medals and tinnies, including an Italian-German Africa Medal, an early Nickel HJ Belt buckle, tinnies, and more!
This lovely set includes:
- One German WWII War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz II Klasse mit Schwertern) without ribbon. The award has lost all of the bronze wash, now displaying a patinated look to the alloy body. The brass hanger ring is marked with Präsidialkanzlei des Führers Lieferant (Presidential Chancellery Supplier) number 15 on the hanger ring, which represents the desirable maker Friedrich Orth of Wien (Vienna), Austria, a known maker of the KvKII.
- One German WWII SA-Wehrmannschaft Defense Team Sports Training Badge in Gold Grade by Bonner Kunstabzeichen Bedarf Fabrik: Known in German as the sportabzeichen, these were awarded to members of the SA for athletic achievement during the annual sports festivals. These were all part of a larger SA-Wehrmannschaft program, intended to train members of the SA for local defense if needed. This example is marked on the back with issue number 926631. It is made of bronze washed / painted steel, and shows oxidation to the bronze powder, as well as some to the steel.
- One German WWII Brass SA EM/NCO Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß) with Plated Bronze Insignia. The front features an embossed insignia with the standard NSDAP Political eagle with downward sloping wings, which is inside a double rope border. The area between the simulated ropes has a ribbed texture, with a spray of oak leaves at the bottom.
- One PAIR of German WWII Offizier schulterklappen (officer shoulder boards), sew-in style. They are constructed with two rows of fine silver flatware "Russia Braid" double piping, which are plaited together to form a loop around the buttonhole. There are no rank "pips", indicating the rank of Major, a rank equivalent to a Major in the U.S. Army. They each have Hochrot (Golden yellow) bases under the Russia braid, the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) in the Heer Army for Cavalry, while in the Luftwaffe Air Force it is for the Flight branch. As these are not outfitted with any other insignia, they could be used for either branch.
- One German WWII Late Pattern NSDAP Party Painted Membership Badge Pin. This is marked on the back with ((RZM)) M1/128, indicating manufacture by Eugen Schmidhaussler of Pforzheim. It is missing much of the paint from the zinc alloy body, as shown.
- One German WWII DAF Labor Front Visor Cap "Festival" Badge. This shows the organization’s "Mobile Swas in a cog gear" emblem over oak leaves. The cog has the correct 14 teeth, and is really in great shape, not showing any real wear or oxidation. It is maker marked on the back, and both prongs are still intact.
- One German WWII Kraftfahrbewährungsabzeichen Driver Proficiency Badge, with fabric background. This looks to be the silver grade, though it has now oxidized, and one of the prongs on the back is broken off.
- One German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy Clerk (Schreiber) Enlisted Career Insignia. This has a Navy Blue background with gold crossed quills in the center.
- One German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy Driver (Kraftfahrer) Enlisted Career Insignia. This has a Navy Blue background with a gold steering wheel in the center.
- One German WWII Landrat des Kreises Alsfeld License Plate Badge. These are somewhat rare, and were affixed to the license plates of those working for the District Administrator of the Alsfeld District.
- One German WWII RKB Reichskolonialbund Enamel Membership Pin. The Reich Colonial League was made from the combination of various colonial organizations that wished to reclaim Germany's colonial empire. Maker marked on the back.
- One German WWII HJ National Youth Organization Enamel Cap Badge. This has the two prongs on the back, correct for a cap badge, and is not a membership badge. It is a bit bent and missing a good amount of the enamel. It is RZM marked on the back.
- One German WWII RADwJ Labor Corps for young women cap badge.
- One German WWII Silver Grade Panzer Assault Badge Stickpin.
- One German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy Blockade Runner Badge Stickpin.
- ONE 1936 Deutsches Jugenfest (German Youth Festival) HJ National Youth Organization Tinny.
A wonderful totally genuine grouping perfect for the German Medal and Insignia collector. Ready to research and display!
"Tinnies" (Veranstaltungsabzeichen - Event Badges) are small commemorative pins or medals, acquired when one attended a specific event held in Germany. They were often made of thin stamped metal, bakelite, or even pressed paper. Many of these were given out as part of the WHW (Winterhilfswerk - Winter Help Work) Organization, which often involved Germans traveling quite a bit to help out the war effort. Many others were given for the annual Reichsparteitag (Reich Party Congress), otherwise known as the Nuremberg Rallies.
