The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example a belt hanger for a German WWII Luftwaffe Air Force 2nd Model officer dagger. The design has two straps with spring clips at the end that attach to the hanger rings on the dagger scabbard, with the other ends attached to a square buckle with another spring clip on the end, which would attach to a loop inside of the uniform. There were several different configurations of these made, but in general the Luffwaffe version features a fliegerblau (flyer's blue) embroidered ribbon with silver bullion stripes on the front of the straps, with blue / gray velvet plush material on the back. They are adjustable in length somewhat, and this example measures approximately 10 1/2" in overall length, not counting the extra clip attached to this hanger.
This hanger features zinc alloy fittings, and as is correct, the buckles and keepers are engraved with the same oak and acorn motifs seen on the dagger and scabbard. The clips are the more desirable "sliding" type, both marked D.R.G.M. on the back, indicating it is a trademarked design. The end clip is also marked on the back with RZM and maker code U.E. 10.. "U.E" indicates Uniformeffekten Erlaubnißschein, (Uniform Accessories Licence), and the manufacturer’s numerical code, "10". It appears the combined RZM/U.E., markings were utilized circa May 1933 to March 1935. These were used when the RZM was still being officially organized. There is unfortunately no listing of the early RZM makers.
The perfect accessory for any German WWII Luftwaffe 2nd Model Dagger!
