Original Items: One-of-a-kind Set. Here we have a lovely matched set of German WWII period civilian license plates, which are actually quite hard to find. They continued to be used after the war, with any NSDAP insignia removed, and were usually used until they wore out, and discarded. This set of front and rear plates did not have that occur, and still has the original paint, as well as the correct issue medallions on both, which show a civic Reichsadler surrounded by Der Polizeipräſident / Wilhelmshaven (The chief of police of Wilhelmshaven). The police were responsible for issuing these plates during the WWII period, and every plate had to have its correct stamp or medallion present. Both the front and rear plate bear the same number sequence, 01 v 53365, and are in very good shape.
The rectangular front plate measures 19 1/4"W x 4", while the rear plate measures 12 1/2"W x 7 1/2", and is shaped like a rectangle with the top corners cut off. They show some paint loss along with rust and oxidation, but we see no signs that they were touched up post war. Definitely a very interesting and hard to find set from WWII!
