Original Item: Only One Available. Der Deutsche Automobil Club (DDAC - The German Automobile Club) was the only authorized automobile club in Germany during the Third Reich. The club absorbed the ADAC and other automobile clubs in 1934, shortly following the rise of AH to the position of FĂŒhrer und Reichskanzler (leader and chancellor of the Reich). The DDAC provided roadside assistance to members and was closely affiliated with the NSKK. These "Clubs" were used by the NSDAPs to encourage Automobile skills as they did for Flying skills during the time when Germany was still not allowed and Military organizations.
This is a very nice D.D.A.C. silver plated commemorative cup, measuring 4 inches tall and 2 5/8 across the mouth. It is most likely made from "Alpaca" alloy, often used to refer to Nickel Silver, and has an attached D.D.A.C. Eagle Emblem on the side, over the following text:-
Gau 20 Hansa
Touristischer
Heimatwettbewerb
1939
This translates to: "District 20 Hansa, Regional Tourism Competition, 1939", one of many events held by the DDAC to build national unity. Germany had a large local tourism industry, and traveling by automobile was quickly becoming the preferred way for Germans to travel for recreation within the country. This cup was most likely given to those who participated in the event.
Overall condition is very good, showing wear to the silver plating, which has exposed the base metal on the insignia and on the sides of the cup. The remaining silver plating has mostly tarnished to a dark color, giving the cup a lovely aged look. A great piece of German WWII memorabilia, ready to add to your collection!
