The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. The DAF (Deutsche Arbeitsfront or German Labor Front) was a National Socialist trade union that supplanted independent unions once the NSDAPs had come to power in Germany. This 47" x 55" Fringed Flag would have usually had a patch sewn in a corner indicating the location it was issued to, but there is none on this example, and it also shows no signs of ever being attached to a pole. It looks to have never been issued before it was captured, and then was kept in storage for a long time, where it suffered a bit of mothing.

The body of the flag appears to be made of woven red wool, with cotton white and black DAF emblems sewn onto on each side. The fringe is twisted silvered cotton threads, which is still very well retained. There is no attachment hardware on the flag, so we assume it was intended to be attached to a pole with tacks, as we have seen before with DAF Parade flags.

Overall the flag is in great shape, showing just a bit of age toning to the insignia, with all of the stitching still intact. There are some scattered small holes and tears which look to be from very minor mothing.

A great piece of third reich memorabilia!

With the dissolution of all Free Trade Unions in Germany in May 1933 the Deutsche Arbeitsfront, (German Labor Front), was established to replace the unions and to educate the workers in industry and commerce for smooth and efficient operation of all labor in the Third Reich. In October 1934 the DAF was given official status as a sub-section of the NSDAP and in March 1936 it was recognized as an independent NSDAP affiliated association and granted control of its own monetary budget. With this money it was able to procure it's own signs and other insignia.
