The Story

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a lovely 4 1/8"x 5 3/4" Photograph card signed by Großadmiral Karl Dönitz (16 September 1891 – 24 December 1980), German grand admiral of the Kriegsmarine and convicted war criminal. Following Adolf H's suicide on 30 April 1945, Dönitz succeeded him as head of state of NSDAP Germany during the Second World War in April 1945. He held the position until the dissolution of the Flensburg Government following Germany's unconditional surrender to the Allies weeks later. As Supreme Commander of the Navy beginning in 1943, he played a major role in the naval history of the war.

The photograph card is almost certainly a reprint of a WWII period photograph of Dönitz, and is in excellent condition. It is signed in blue pin towards the bottom, which looks to have been a felt tip or fountain pen, as there is not any real indentation in the photo surface. The ink looks to have changed color from blue to purple on the darker portions of the photograph, giving it a great look. We have compared the autograph to other known examples, and it is a match.

A great chance to pick up an addition to your German WWII autograph collection!
