The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition lightly used example of a hard to find German WWII Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Officer overseas cap (Küstenartillerie Offizier Schiffchen). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for the Coastal Artillery.
This example is constructed of a field gray (feldgrau) wool exterior, with a nice burgundy brushed cotton liner, which shows a large 59 size stamped on the right side in red. This is similar to the army colors, however it features a fine hand embroidered eagle with yellow Celleon bullion style thread on a green base, the Kriegsmarine colors. Below this is a hand embroidered bullion embroidered tri-color cockade with a red felt insert, which is woven on green material. The scalloped flap around the bottom of the cap has Celleon bullion style piping around the entire circumference, indicating officer issue.
Condition of this cap is excellent, showing very little in the way of fading or wear. There is just a bit of staining to the burgundy interior, as well as a few moth nips to the exterior. The stitching is all still intact, and the insignia look great.
Definitely a very attractive and colorful Kriegsmarine overseas cap, and the first time we have one for a Coastal Artillery Officer. Ready to add to your collection!
