Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a lovely two piece, grey leather deck uniform in a variant pattern as worn by lower ranked Kriegsmarine personnel. The jacket is of heavy grey blue finished leather, which shows a good amount of wear from service, as well as some tears on the tops of the shoulders. It has a five-button front closure (two buttons are torn off) furnished with gray finished magnetic buttons, which are marked on the back with EXTRA FEIN.
It has a band collar (with hook closure) and two adjustment straps on each sleeve having the same buttons, both of which still present on both sides. The exterior has the typical lower hip pockets and one upper breast pocket, all with top flaps but no closure buttons. The interior is lined with heavy black wool, while the sleeves are lined with soft cotton, terminating in elastic wool cuffs. There is an internal horizontal slash pocket on the right breast, and there is a size 56 size tag under the fully legible maker label, which reads:
„Hela“
Berufskleidung
Kiel
The port city of Kiel is exactly where one would expect a jacket such as this to be retailed.
The closely matching trousers are of fine grey leather having exterior brace buttons on the waistband. The front of the trousers has a button fly with a metal hook at the top, and the rear has an opening with leather sizing strap and metal buckle. They are fully lined with blue cotton twill cloth and they retain a complete maker label, which reads:
Robert Strauss
Aystetten b. Augsburg
Fabrik Feiner Lederbekleidung
Rostra
Große 56.
Datum 19. 9. 41
Appearing to be based on a work uniform pattern, the jacket looks to have seen quite a bit more use than the trousers, so it's very possible that they were replacement issued later in the war after their first pair were no longer usable. It's also possible that the jacket was worn far more than the trousers, resulting in the large disparity in condition.
A beautiful set, as associated with deck and U-boat personnel offered in very good condition with some great markings.
