The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely lot of German WWII period porcelain items, as one might see at NSDAP and RAD offices, or even in the officer's mess in Germany. There were many fine porcelain makers in Germany, and most were eager to cater to the needs of the NSDAP regime by producing a wide range of items. This set was most likely brought back by a USGI after the war, and represents the various different items that were made by famous maker Rosenthal of Selb, a Bavarian maker of fine porcelain that exists even today. All the items show signs of light use, and would make a great addition to any German WWII porcelain collection.
Items in this set:
- Two Small bowls or saucers marked R.A.D. on the bottom, probably for use by the Reichsarbeitdienst (National Labor Service). They have red borders around the top, and are about 5 3/8" in diameter by 1 1/8" tall.
- One saucer marked with a large NSDAP Reichsadler eagle on the bottom and dated 1941. Measures about 5 5/8" in diameter by 1" tall. It is in very good shape, with just a small chip on the bottom, which looks to have started out as a crack and grown over the years.
- One Salt and Pepper Cellar, also called a "pinch pot" or spice cellar, marked with a large NSDAP Reichsadler eagle on the bottom and dated 1938. Measures about 4 1/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/4"H. It is in very good shape, showing only light use.
