The Story
Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a very nice collection of German WWII military issue flatware, which was likely brought back from the European theater by a USGI after the war was concluded. Many soldiers traded these on the way back, and would end with various utensils, and other items as well. This set represents the typical "haul" one might have come back with, and all of the flatware bear the Luftwaffe Eagle insignia, as well as Fl.U.V., for Flieger Unterkunft Verwaltung, or the Flight Barracks Administration, the agency responsible for Luftwaffe accommodations. They all have maker and other markings, and the set also comes with an unissued Luftwaffe M35 Sports Shirt and unissued armband, so we assume the soldier who brought these back was probably was involved in capturing a Luftwaffe installation.
The set includes:
- One Luftwaffe large aluminum serving ladle, maker marked on the back with AL over BERNDORF, with the company's "Bear" insignia in between. It also is dated 1939, and measures 13" long, with a 3 1/2" bowl.
- One Luftwaffe dinner knife with a stainless steel blade and aluminum handle. It is maker marked with [GAG], and there is a 38 date next to this. Measures 9 3/4 inches overall, with a 5 1/2 inch long blade.
- One Luftwaffe aluminum dinner fork, maker marked with [GAG], and there is a 38 date next to this. Measures 8 1/8 inches overall.
- One Luftwaffe aluminum soup or serving spoon, maker marked with T.W.S., and there is a 40 date next to this. Measures 8 inches overall.
- One German WWII Luftwaffe Sports Shirt BeVo Embroidered Eagle Insignia for M35 Sport Shirt. This example has no stitch holes and the background is not folded under, so it looks to have never been attached to a shirt. It is in very good condition, showing some staining and age toning on the exterior.
- One German WWII Unissued NSDAP Printed Armband. This measures 15 3/8" x 4 5/8", and was cut out from a larger sheet of printed armbands, however it was never sewn along the border nor sewn together in the back.
A great set that would be welcome in any German WWII Cutlery Collection!
