The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service used genuine steel construction M34 "Square Dip" Third Reich helmet, most likely original outfitted for German WWII Fire Police Use. Post war, the decals were removed from the helmet, and it was instead fit with replica decals for Werksluftchutz Factory Air Raid Protection at the Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft (Bavarian Motor Works Corp.) factory in München (Munich), Bavaria. More commonly known as BMW, this motor vehicle company was vital to the German war machine, and as such was a prime target for bombing, so it had it's own Luftschutz detachment.

The helmet has a post war version of the iconic B M W roundel emblem on the front, showing the Bavarian State colors, and on the inside of the rear there is a post war version of the Werkluftschutz property tag, which reads:-

(BMW) EIGENTUM (BMW)
Bayer. Motorenwerke A.G.
MĂĽnchen
Werkluftschutz

The helmet is overall in lovely service used condition, showing wear to the paint on the exterior consistent with age and long use. There is some light denting and oxidation, and it has a great look. The leather liner on the inside does show wear, and we can see a small size 60 stamped on the front. The chin strap is still present, but definitely does show age and wear, being in delicate condition. All five of the leather tabs for attaching a neck guard are still present.

A wonderful German WWII M34 civic issue helmet from WWII, outfitted with post war BMW Air Raid Protection decals. Ready to add to your collection!

History of the RLB
The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB) (National Air Raid Protection League) was organized by Hermann Göring in 1933 as a voluntary association. Existing volunteer air raid precaution associations were forced to merge with RLB. In 1939 the RLB became a Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts (quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization), while in 1944 it became an affiliated organization of the NSDAP Party. It was in charge of educating and training ordinary German men and women in civil defense procedures necessary for the basic level of local self-help of the civil population against air raids. The local level was formed around air raid wardens and operated in small first intervention squads. The training include fire fighting, protection against chemical weapons, communication procedures and preparation of houses and apartments against air raids.
