Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is definitely an interesting piece of German WWII military history! Here we have a very nice plated zinc eagle sculpture desk ornament. It measures 8 7/8" across wings with a height of 3 1/4", and is perched onto a 3" wide swas (hook cross). This sits on a marble base measuring about 4 11/16"W x 3 1/2"D x 13/16"H, which is padded on the bottom. There is a small aluminum plaque on the front that is engraved with Lanzenreiten 1939, or "Jousting 1939". As best we can tell this was probably presented as a memento of some type of Medieval jousting competition, as historical recreations are certainly not a recent creation.
The ornament is in very good condition, with the eagle and swas looking to originally have been silver plated, which has now matured to a dark tarnished patina. We can also see areas on the edges of the wings and swas where the metal has chipped or erode. The base is brown marble, and in good shape, though there are some white areas on one side, which point to possible exposure to something acidic, which can erode the marble. The ornament is also a bit loose on the base, and the padding on the bottom blocks access to the attachment nut.
A great piece of of German WWII Era militaria, perfect for a desk display piece!
