The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. Recently purchased at a militaria show is this genuine German WWII NSDAP banner, which we assume was hung on a wall or possibly a podium. The National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the NSDAP Party, was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers' Party (DAP) before the name was changed in 1920.

The party's last leader, Adolf AH, was appointed Chancellor of Germany by president Paul von Hindenburg in 1933. AH rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the Third Reich.

The banner is single sided, measuring 72" x 15" with a hanger loop on the top end, and the other end terminates in a point, with a tri-color tassels at the bottom and on one side where the edge turns inward. We assume there was originally one on the other side as well, however it tore through the fabric long ago. The banner is of multi-piece construction, with a white canvas circle (one piece) with a printed black swas (hook cross) stitched onto the red cotton background. Around this is a stitched on white border going around the entire banner.

The banner is offered in very good condition, looking to have seen moderate use during the NSDAP period. There is light staining and age toning throughout, especially on the white portions, and there are small tears and holes scattered throughout the banner. We can see that there is some paint spatter on the edges in places. The swas on the central insignia has torn and started to degrade, as it appears that the black printing has caused the material to deteriorate.

A very interesting and long example, ready to add to your collection!
