Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP) First Pattern Flag Pole Finial or Topper (Fahnenstange EndstĂĽck) Eagle. It is constructed of nickel plated alloy of some type, most likely zinc-based, and is the early multi-part design. Unfortunately, while the topper still has the attachment rod, the socket fitting on the bottom is missing. There is just a bit of bending to the pole topper, and no major damage from being dropped or anything similar.
The design is the standard NSDAP "Spread Wing" Reichsadler (National Eagle), which looks to its right, and is perched on an oak-leaf wreath, with a mobile/canted Swas (swas) in the center. It measures 9 inches tall including the 2 inch threaded rod, and is 8 inches wide at the tips of the wings. There is definitely wear to the plating on the eagle, and the oxidized zinc alloy base metal can be seen, as shown. There are places where the plating is actively flaking, and literally falling off. There is also some oxidation on the threaded rod to the bottom. The original black paint on the swas is mostly retained on both sides.
These Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap. This is one in very nice condition, ready to add to any collection!
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei , abbreviated NSDAP), commonly referred to in English as the NSDAP Party, was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945, that created and supported the ideology of National Socialism. Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.
The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
