Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP) First Pattern Flag Pole Finial or Topper (Fahnenstange EndstĂĽck). It is constructed of nickel plated brass alloy, possibly cast as one piece and then machine finished. The one piece construction means that parts could not be lost, and there are beveled screw holes on two sides of the socket to attach it firmly to the pole.
The design is the standard NSDAP mobile/canted swas (hook cross) attached to the pole socket via a small floral bolster. It measures approximately 8 1/8 inches tall, and the top is 5 1/4 inches in diameter. There is some wear and oxidation to the plating, however no major flaking. Overall it is in very good condition, showing some bending and scratches to the swas, and the nickel plated finish had degraded in places, showing the brass base metal.
These Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap. This is one in very nice condition, ready to add to any collection!

Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.
The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
