The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good service used condition multi-piece construction German WWII Swas (hook cross) identification flag, used for Panzer tanks and other vehicles. It measures approximately 29 x 38 inches and has the standard NSDAP Swas (Hook Cross) printed onto a circular white field. This was then sewn onto the red cotton body of the flag, which is itself made from two pieces of fabric. This flag is single sided with plated steel grommets located in each corner, which were attached to tension lines that secured the flag to the back of the tank laying flat. Thereby the flag was only visible to persons located above the tank. Generally these flags were intended to be seen by German airplanes so as not to be struck by friendly fire.

Overall condition shows that this example saw some real use in the field, and there's a good chance this one was actually directly removed from a tank or armored vehicle by a USGI in the field, which would explain the fading and wear. There are also stains, fading to the swas insignia, and also oxidation on the plated steel grommets.
