The Story
Original Items: Only One Set of Three Available. This are some very nice examples of "Miniature" German Edged weapons, which have been observed from several different makers. Often referred to as "salesman samples", there is definitely debate over the purpose of these miniature daggers, which are quite useful as letter openers as well. They are constructed much as the full size daggers, but the idea of a miniature dagger to be used as a sample by sales staff seems somewhat suspect, as the real thing isn't excessively large.
The edged weapons in this set look to be late war or from the immediate post war period, meant to capitalize on the large souvenir trade during the occupation. All manner of items were made during this time, many using parts that were left over from WWII.
This lovely set consists of the following items:-
- One Miniature Mid-Late War style SA dagger, complete with scabbard. This is really a great example measuring just over 6 1/2 inches in overall length, and really is extremely well executed, even down to the blade cross grain. It has multiple different components assembled together, and is very much just a scaled down SA dagger.
- One Miniature Export Mauser style bayonet, measuring 7 1/4" in overall length. It looks like the crossguard quillon has been bent back around.
- One Miniature Dress Bayonet, measuring 5 1/4" in overall length, complete with scabbard. This is a relatively crudely made, being just solid pieces of cat iron or steel.
Please consult the pictures for condition details. A great set of miniature German edged weapons from the late / post war period, ready to research and display!
