The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Pre-WWII German Postschutz Postal Protection Organization EM/NCO belt buckle (Koppelschloß). It is a nice single piece injection molded and crimped aluminum construction box buckle with a pebbled background. The front of the buckle has a very nice stamped Postschutz Logo: a high relief, embossed Postal eagle with flared wings, clutching a signal horn with lightning bolts (for telecommunications). The eagle is encompassed by dual rope borders and Poſtſchutz in German Blackletter type on a ribbed background. The buckle is in very good condition, with the pebbling in good condition, and most of the detail still present, though it is slightly deformed.

There is no maker mark on the buckle, however the buckle still retains the original leather tab, which is missing most of the stitching and shows dry rot. However it also still has a clear maker marking, which reads:-

F.W. ASSMANN & SÖHNE
LÜDENSCHEID
1936

Overall a very nice example of a hard to find Pre WWII German Belt buckle, ready to add to your collection!

The Postschutz (Postal Protection) organization was established in March 1933 as a uniformed organization tasked with the security and protection of the national postal and telecommunications systems. These installations included the telephone and telegraph facilities since they were, initially, under the supervision of the Postmaster-General, Dr. Ohnesorge (NSKK Obergruppenfuhrer). Personnel were mainly recruited from the Polizei, the SA, and the SS. By 1942 the Postschutz had a total of 4,500 men in service and was made up of older men or men who were not fit enough for front line service. In March 1942, the organization became subordinate to the Allgemeine SS.
