Original Items: Only One Available. This is a lovely BeVO Embroidered cuff title for members of the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen", famous for its actions during the Normandy battles. The cuff title approximately 18" long and 1 1/8" wide, still full length, with stitched over ends to prevent fraying, one of which is marked by maker BEVO-WUPPERTAL. This is the abbreviation for Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher in Wuppertal, Germany, a company specialized in high quality embroidery on thin fabrics who made all types of insignia during the war. They are a known maker of these, and we have seen other period examples, which this matches exactly.
The cuff title is of black rayon construction, with a "BeVo" style machine woven "Roman" serif font Götz von Berlichingen embroidered in silver gray threading, with borders at the top and bottom. The reverse features typical, so called "salt & pepper" pattern on reverse. Overall condition is very good, showing wear from use in service, which includes some stains, pilling, and folds in the material. It would most likely benefit greatly from being mounted between two pieces of glass.

The 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen" (German: 17. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Götz von Berlichingen") was a German Waffen-SS division that saw action on the Western Front during World War II. It was formed in October 1943 from Germans, Volksdeutsche, Romanians, and Belgians, and included a cadre from the 10th SS Panzer Division Frundsberg. The division was sent into battle, destroyed, and rebuilt, before surrendering to U.S. forces near Achen Lake in May 1945. It was first stationed in southwest France before being sent to Normandy in June 1944, where it launched a counterattack against the U.S. 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. The 17th slowed down their advance but was practically destroyed as of July 1944. The division was rebuilt in eastern France and took part in the Battle of Metz, where it took heavy losses, and after that its remnants fought against the Western Allied invasion of Germany.
