Original Item: Only One available. During the NSDAP period, it was very common for the larger state-run organizations to procure their own silverware, which would be marked with the organizations logo. This is a very nice Reichsbund der Deutschen Beamten RBD Civil Servant Association soup spoon, which would have been used for dining at association functions. These all feature a distinctive art deco style spread wing Reichsadler eagle with RDB across the chest, the insignia of the organization.
The reverse of the handle is marked with the [WMF] Patent logo of WĂĽrttembergische Metallwarenfabrik, more commonly known as WMF. This company specializing in fine silverware was originally founded in 1853, and continues to produce fine silverware to this day. Next to this is a 90 in a rectangle and a 30 in a diamond, which are markings related to the silver plating of the spoon. The "90" most likely indicates the weight in grams used for silvering 12 forks and 12 spoons. We do not know what the other marking means.
The spoon measures 18.1cm (7.13in.) long, and the condition is very good, showing light wear from service and tarnishing from age. We do not see any signs of heavy polishing, and the markings are still crisp.
A very nice example of NSDAP Era Silverware, ready to research and display!
The Reichsbund der Deutschen Beamten (RDB), meaning "Reich Federation of German Civil Servants", also known as NS-Beamtenbund (National Socialist Civil Servants Federation), was the trade union for German State Officials during the Third Reich. The RDB was established as an organization affiliated to the National Socialist party in October 1933. Its leader was Herman Neef. Neef had been previously leading the RDB's predecessor organisation, Deutscher Beamtenbund German Civil Service Federation, which had been founded in December 1918. Although it was not compulsory for RDB members to be National Socialist party members, most of them chose to be. In addition to the training and development of its members, the RDB ensured that German Civil Servants toed the line of the Party.
Following Germany's defeat in World War II, the American Military Government issued a special law outlawing the NSDAP and all of its branches. Known as "Law number five", this deNSDAPification decree disbanded the National Socialist Civil Servants Federation, like all other organizations linked to th Party. In the postwar years, it was reestablished as the German Civil Service Federation in the Federal Republic of Germany.
