The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a fantastic German WWII Reversible Waffen SS camouflage cap, made using the Waffen-SS specific "Oak Pattern A" (Eichenlaubmuster) camouflage, which was in use 1943–1945. This pattern was based on the earlier Platanenmuster (Plane Tree Pattern) used 1937–1942, and was reversible, with a "spring" side and an "autumn" side. These camouflage caps were made from a variety of materials during the war. Combined with the comfort of a field cap, they were relatively popular, and many were made in field workshops, so they were produced in countless styles.

As with most we see, there is no lining in the cap, though there is a "Sweatband", made from the same camouflage material. The cap has the "spring" side on the exterior, with more browns and greens, while the interior has the "autumn" side showing, and the cap definitely looks to be reversible. It shows moderate use during the war, and possibly afterwards, showing wear and fading to the fabric. The cardboard brim has some rippling but is still crease and crack free. The size seems to be about a 56cm.

A great service used example of a field made cap that comes ready for further research and display!
