Original German WWII Set of Two EM/NCO Belt Buckles - One Pebbled Aluminum Luftwaffe and One Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery

Original Item: Only One Set of 2 Available. Here we have a lovely set of two German WWII EM/NCO belt buckles, one from the Luftwaffe Air Force, and the second from the Kriegsmarine Navy, in particular their Küstenartillerie (Coastal artillery) branch. During the NSDAP period the number of different types of belt buckles used by the military and civic organizations rapidly increased, making them very popular items to collect.

The first item in this set is a very nice WWII German Wehrmacht Luftwaffe EM/NCO's Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß). It is embossed with the wartime Luftwaffe straight tail eagle surrounded by an oval laurel leaf wreath. Nice aluminum injection molded construction box buckle with a pebbled background. The buckle is in very good condition, with all the pebbling in good condition, and much of the detail in the eagle present. The inside of the buckle is marked Dr. F. & Co., for Dr. Franke & Co., located in of Lüdenscheid, a city with a large garment accessories industry.

The second item is a very good condition somewhat rare WWII German Kriegsmarine (Navy) EM/NCO's Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß). The Navy used the standard Wehrmacht pattern buckles, but instead of the Field Gray color used by the Heer, they usually painted them a gold color. However, this was deemed most likely not the best color to use in Küstenartillerie (Coastal artillery) emplacements, so in 1937 they began to issue these dark blue belt buckles instead.

The Buckle design features a smooth outer field with central, high relief, embossed Wehrmacht eagle with down swept wings to slightly domed center, encompassed by an oak-leaf cluster to bottom and bears the Wehrmacht motto GOTT MIT UNS, (God [is] with us), on the top. The oak-leaf cluster and script are on a ribbed background and encircled by an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border. This is a great navy blue painted steel construction box buckle with a smooth background. The buckle is in very good condition, with most of the original paint, showing wear on the raised areas of the front, as is typical. There are also a few spots of oxidation on the reverse. The back of the buckle is nicely stamped with maker mark JFS for Josef Feix & Söhne of Gablonz, in the so-called Sudetenland. The leather tab, which would often be on buckles by this maker, is unfortunately missing.
