Original Item: Only One Available. The SS (Schutzstaffel - 'Protection Squadron') was originally formed in 1925, ostensibly to act as a small, loyal bodyguard unit to protect the Führer, Adolf AH. Under the direction of the Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the SS grew to be the most ruthless and feared organization of the 20th century. They were the vanguard of the NSDAP and eventually controlled nearly every function of German life and much of Occupied Europe.
When WWII began in earnest, the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT) (SS Dispositional Troops) became the Waffen-SS ("Armed SS"), an official military branch of the SS organization. Its formations included men from NSDAP ruled Germany, along with volunteers and conscripts from both occupied and unoccupied lands.
This is a good worn example of a genuine WWII German SS recruitment booklet, titled “Dich ruft Die SS” or “The SS is Calling You”. It is referred to as “The SS Calls on You”. The booklet is dated 1942 and is in good overall condition, with a large portion of the pages disconnected at the seam.
This is a rare and desirable Waffen-SS Recruitment Booklet containing details about the interior organization of the Waffen-SS, possible career possibilities within the SS (with basic position requirements), as well as an application form.
It was intended for the recruitment of boys and young men into the SS, and is divided into two parts – the first part is about the structure and tasks of the SS – with encouraging words of AH, the Oath of the SS, career possibilities and their respective requirements (age, academics, etc) as well as their duties and promotional opportunities, notes to the parents of potential applicants, and an application form – the second part contains stories of SS members during the war, with multiple wartime photographs and illustrations.
The booklet is 94 pages long and has heavy wear to the cover with many small tears throughout the pages. Still a good example of a now extremely scarce book. It measures 6 x 8”.
Ready for further research and display.
