The Story

(Original Items: Very Few Available. We have acquired a small set of UNISSUED WWII German NSDAP Uniform Belt Buckles, all by the same maker! Each still has the original RZM paper labels, which read Zweidornſchnalle nach Vorſchrift der Reichszeugmeiſterei der NSDAP. (Double Prong Belt Buckle per regulations of the RZM) over the lot number.

The each buckle is marked on the back with an RZM circle and with the code M5 / 71. The Reichszeugmeisterei, or RZM, was was based at the Brown house in Munich and NSDAP party headquarters in Berlin. The RZM ensured that the manufacturers of military items were consistent in design, quality of materials and other characteristics of the items. It also defined standards of design, manufacturing and quality and published an authoritative color chart for textiles.

The M5 in the code stands for "Uniform fittings and Buttons", and registrant 71 is Overhoff & Cie. of Lüdenscheid, a German city which had a large number of companies who made buckles, buttons, and other clothing items. Overhoff is a very well-known maker. As this is under the "M5" category, this is a "uniform accessory" buckle, and not one for a separate belt. We also noted that there are some reference numbers written on the side of each buckle, which look to be possibly museum catalog numbers, as each is different.

Finding buckles in this fine condition is extremely difficult. The only wear they have is from age and storage. Ready to add to your German Belt Buckle Collection!
